Over 400 inspirational athletes and 90 coaches and support staff will descend on P.E.I. for the Special Olympics 5-pin and 10-pin bowling national championships May 14-20 in Charlottetown, Summerside and Tyne Valley.

It’s the first major event in North America during Special Olympics 50th anniversary year.

Athletes qualified from their provincial and territorial games to compete at these nationals and for many this is the pinnacle of their competitive experience.

The 10-pin bowlers will be rolling to represent Team Canada at the 2019 Special Olympic World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

And Cory Thomas, organizing committee co-chair, is ready.

“We are thrilled that Prince Edward Island is hosting the 2018 Special Olympics Canada bowling championships,” said Thomas. “Sport, volunteerism and hospitality are important to the people of P.E.I. We look forward to sharing our province with Special Olympics athletes from across the country in May 2018.”

Bowling is one of Special Olympics Canada’s original sports and also features the most registered athletes, with 13,435 participants across the country. The week will be a showcase of dedication, competitive spirt and sportsmanship.
