ST. JOHN’S, N.L. - After 180 minutes of play between UPEI and Memorial men’s soccer teams there doesn’t appear to be much separating the two.
The squads played to their second straight 0-0 draw Sunday in St. John’s, N.L., on opening weekend of the Atlantic University Sport regular season.
The Panthers started out forcing the Sea-Hawks early in the game with good passing down the wings and created a couple good chances.
For the most of the game though the good scoring chances were few and far apart. The Panther defence was strong again, conceding only two Sea-Hawk chances in the game.
Panther keeper Brett Strba picked up the clean sheets both Saturday and Sunday.
UPEI had the better chances especially late in the game on what was almost an own goal had it not been for a Memorial defender wisely guarding the right post.
“Two good defensive games for us,“ said UPEI head coach Lewis Page. “We limited their goal-scoring opportunities and (we’re) good on possession, good on the ball. We need to take our chances. We need to score goals to win. We can’t do it all just on defence.”
