Hurricanes women to play placement game Saturday at soccer nationals

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Holland College Hurricanes will play the Vancouver Island University Mariners for seventh place Saturday at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association women’s soccer championship in Montreal.

Nicole McInnis makes a save during Holland College Hurricanes women's soccer practice Sunday in Cornwall.

Game time is 10 a.m. Atlantic.
The Hurricanes lost 1-0 on a late goal to the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolfpack on Thursday.
Both teams had great chances to score early in the first half, including a Wolfpack cross that rolled through the box untouched but Hurricanes keeper Nicole McInnis made a big save.
For the ‘Canes, a Lauren Myers shot rang off of the crossbar after she was able to get behind the defence.
The two teams would continue to create chances in the second half, but the defensive lines and goalies stood tall.
The back-and-forth action continued until there was five minutes left in the second half when McInnis got beat by a looping header.
The ‘Canes would throw everything they had at the Wolfpack but nothing was converted by the Holland College women as time expired.
McInnis was named the team’s player of the game.
The Mariners enter lost 2-1 to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Ooks on Thursday.
