CHARLOTTETOWN – First up tactics play right into Marc Campbell's driving style and when asked, Rose Run Quest responded in the Saturday evening feature pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Atlantic Canada's leading reinsman got away third in the $2,400 preferred pace with Rose Run Quest and watched as Carracci Hanover and Jason Hughes tripped the fractions on front in 28.1, 56.2 and 1:25.3.
Campbell then moved his charge into contention, showing him open air and gobbling up his rivals for a mile of 1:55.1 as part of a training and driving triple for the Winsloe horseman.
Mick Dundee (Don MacNeill) got up for second, with Carracci Hanover hanging on for third.
Rose Run Quest, who now rides a three-race win streak, is owned by Blair Hansen of Charlottetown.
In other action, the Maritime Breeders Eliminations were held for two- and three-year-old trotters, with the top four from each race advancing to Saturday's final.
Pappy Go Go kept his undefeated season intact with win No. 11 in-a-row in a $3,000 elimination for three-year-old trotters for trainer-driver Campbell and owner Grayland Farm of Pugwash, N.S.
The mile time was 2:00.4, with second going to Oceanview Deb (Henry Smallwood), followed by Majian Cash (Jim Ripley) and Half Note (Terry Gallant) earned a berth into Saturday's final.
The other $3,000 three-year-old trot Maritime Breeders elimination was won by Wicked Nick in 2:00.3 for trainer-driver Gary Chappell and owners Cam Trail of O'Leary and Peter Buchanan of North Wiltshire. Majian Tango (Ripley) was second, with the final two spots in next week's final going to Hop Up (Corey MacPherson) and Miss Neala Ridge (Clare MacDonald).
In two-year-old Maritime Breeders trot elimination action, Atlantic Breeders Crown-champion Windemeredontuworry claimed his division in 2:02.2 with Gilles Barrieau at the lines for co-owner and trainer Terry Gallant and co-owner Eric Johnston of Summerside.
Oceanview Tadpole (Chappell) was second, A Pure Heart (Danny MacDonald) was third and Daisy River (Paul Lanigan) was fourth to secure his place in Saturday’s two-year-old final.
Buckaroo claimed the other elimination for trainer-driver Campbell, who steered the two-year-old son of Tad The Stud to a 2:02.1 victory for owners Larry and Kathy Chappell of Marshfield.
Buddy White (MacPherson) was second, with Majian Gilroy (Jim Ripley) third and Ticked (Myles Heffernan) making multiple breaks in the mile but clinging onto fourth place to earn his way to the final.
Hughes had a driving double on the 14-dash card that also saw the first P.E.I. driving victory for Gregory Weatherbee, who last campaigned an East Coast stable in the early 2000s in Nova Scotia.
Weatherbee drove Czar Seelster to victory on the Saturday program in a time of 1:58.4 for owner Tammy Johnston of Stratford.
