HALIFAX, N.S. – Kiera Rigby had 19 points as the UPEI Panthers defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies 58-46 Saturday in Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball action in Halifax.

The Panthers outscored the Huskies 16-7 in both the second and fourth quarters en route to their first victory of the season. The Panthers opened the season with a 60-52 loss Friday at Saint Mary’s.

Rookie Reese Baxendale chipped in 10 points while Jane McLaughlin and Karla Yepez each added eight and Carolina Del Santo added 12 rebounds with six points, six steals and four blocks.

Shanieka Wood led the Huskies with 14 points while Cornwall’s Jada Yeo had two rebounds and an assist.

Saint Mary’s led 16-11 after the first quarter, but trailed 27-23 at the half and 42-39 heading to the fourth quarter.

UPEI hosts UNB Friday at 6 p.m. in its home opener.
