CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The P.E.I. Mudmen start the Nova Scotia Senior Men’s Rugby Maritime Elite League season today in a re-match of last year’s regional championship in Truro, N.S.

P.E.I. faces a Fredericton Loyalists side which downed the Mudmen 22-20, dousing P.E.I.’s hopes of its first Caledonia Cup since 1955.

Game time is 3 p.m.

P.E.I. (1-0) thrashed the Valley Bulldogs 103-7 last weekend to open the division 1 campaign. It’s Fredericton’s first regular season game.

The day’s other Elite League games have Bellisle against Enfield and the Saint John Trojans against Halifax Tars.

The league is a mix of P.E.I., Nova Scotia and New Brunswick teams.
