The Mudmen scored with a couple minutes to play to cut the deficit to four and were deep in Fredericton’s end of the field, threatening to take the lead, but the Loyalists defence held near the goal-line.
Captain and fullback Charlie Waddell was the Mudmen’s man of the match. Simon Hood, Waddell, Phil Gallant and Adam Fitzpatrick each scored a try while Fitzpatrick added two converts and one penalty kick to round out the scoring.
The Mudmen’s first division squad plays in Saint John, N.B., on Saturday while the second division Mudmen team has its first game Sunday, July 16, with the Halifax Tars.
