SOURIS – The Eastern Maniacs proved on Friday night that the playoffs are a brand-new season.
The Maniacs posted a 4-2 victory over the first-place Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings, a team that had 29 more points than Eastern during the regular season.
The series was originally scheduled to open at the Evangeline Recreation Centre on Tuesday, but that game was postponed due to the weather. The teams agreed to open the series in Souris on Friday night – the originally scheduled date for Game 2 – and will play the next two contests in Abram Village on Sunday at 7 p.m., and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
At the Eastern Kings Sportsplex, Andrew Campbell scored two goals, Jonathan Arsenault added a goal and an assist and Tyler Rose contributed a single tally.
Jason Gallant netted both goals for the Red Wings.
There was no scoring in the first period, and the Maniacs were in front 3-2 following 40 minutes.
Noah Laybolt earned the goaltending win. Bronson Banks was between the pipes for Western.
