Wind falls to 1-1 at Atlantic bantam AAA female hockey ch'ship

MONCTON, N.B. – The host Eastern Rockets handed the Western Wind their first loss of the Atlantic bantam AAA female hockey championship.

The Western Wind will represent P.E.I. at the Atlantic bantam AAA female hockey championship in Moncton, N.B. Play begins on Thursday and continues through until Sunday. The Rockets defeated the P.E.I. champions 4-1 during round-robin play in the five-team tournament on Friday. The result left both teams with 1-1 (won-lost) records, although the Rockets were back on the ice for their third game Friday night.
The Wind plays twice on Saturday – against Newfoundland and Labrador’s Eastern Ice Breakers at 11 a.m., and New Brunswick’s Northern Panthers at 3 p.m. Sunday, the top two teams will play in the championship game while the third- and fourth-place teams will meet for the bronze medal.

Gallant scores
At the Kay Arena, Josee Gallant, who was set up by Kylie Campbell and Ally Hustler, netted the lone goal for the Wind at 8:07 of the second period. That tally brought the Wind to within 2-1, but the Rockets answered back 41 seconds later to restore a two-goal lead, and added an insurance tally early in the third period.
Emma Smallman was between the pipes for the Wind.
