Euchred draws rail for Governor’s Plate in Summerside

50th running of Prince County’s most prestigious standardbred race goes Saturday

SUMMERSIDE – Euchred has drawn the coveted rail position for the 50th running of the Governor’s Plate at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway on Saturday.
The draw for Prince County’s most prestigious standardbred race took place trackside during Tuesday night’s 12-dash Governor’s Plate Week harness racing program.
The top four finishers from two $5,000 eliminations on Sunday advanced to the $25,000 Governor’s Plate final, which is presented by Township Chevrolet in Summerside. This year’s purse is increased by $3,000 over 2017, when it was $22,000.

Elimination winners
Adam Merner drove Euchred to a 1:54 victory in the first elimination. Summerside native Terry Gallant, who drove Outlawpositivcharg to back-to-back Governor’s Plate wins in 2008 and 2009, trains the six-year-old brown gelding by Shadow Play-Tipsy Taters-Camluck for owner Kayla Habicht Walker of Inverness, N.S.
Czar Seelster, the winner of Elimination 2, has drawn Post 2. Veteran reinsman Kenny Arsenault of Charlottetown, who won the 2011 Governor’s Plate with Serious Damage, steered the nine-year-old bay horse by Stonebridge Regal-Cmon Mama Cass Threefold to a 1:54 win on Sunday for owner Tammy Johnston of Vernon Bridge.

Mr Irresistible, the second-place finisher in the first elimination, will leave from the No. 3 hole on the gate, and Keep Coming has Post 4. Keep Coming was fourth in the first elimination.
Nogreatmischief drew Post 5 after a third-place finish in Elimination 1, and defending-champion Do Over Hanover has Post 6 after a show position finish in the second elimination.
In Spades, who was second in the second elimination, will leave from Post 7 while Cartoon Daddy, the fourth-place finisher in Elimination 2, will leave from the far outside – Post 8.
Post time on Saturday is set for 6:30 p.m.

The current track record, set by Y S Lotus in the 48th running of the Governor’s Plate in 2016, is 1:51.4.
