CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Holland Hurricanes basketball teams hit the court this weekend for Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) action at home and on the road.

Today in Sackville, N.B., the Hurricanes take on the Mount Allison Mounties. The women get things started at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m.

Sunday sees the ‘Canes men hosting the Dal-AC Rams, at 4 p.m., at Holland College.

The Hurricanes women are 2-1 this season, while the Mounties are 5-0. It’s the first meeting of the teams this season.

Jayla Verney leads the ‘Canes in scoring with 18.3 points per game, good for third in the ACAA. Kiersten Mangold from Mount Allison is right behind Verney in fourth overall with 18 points per and leads the ACAA in rebounding at 12.4 boards per game.

Holland College’s Tyleigha Nelson is second overall in rebounding (8.3 per game).

On the men’s side Saturday, it’s a battle of undefeated teams as the Hurricanes (3-0) tangle with the Mounties (5-0).

Thomas LeGallais leads the ACAA with 23.6 points per game. Jace Colley (19.7 per game) tops the Hurricanes in scoring, while Roosevelt Whyley is grabbing a team-high 8.7 boards per game.

On Sunday the Hurricanes host winless Dal AC (0-4).
