Peakes Tee advances to KCBL final; Stratford tops Brewers

PEAKES, P.E.I. - The Peakes Tee Bombers punched their ticket to the Kings County Baseball League final with an 8-7 come-from-behind victory over the Morell Chevies in Peakes Sunday.

The Chevies got off to an early start, scoring two runs in the first off Bombers’ starter Bruce Jay. The Bombers replied with one of their own to narrow the score. With Morell up 3-2 in the sixth, Troy Coffin hit a grand slam to put the Chevies in control 7-2. The Bombers chipped away in their own half of the sixth with a pair of unearned runs.

The Bomber bats came alive in the seventh. Matt Bradley hit a two-run homer off Chevies starter Taylor Larkin to pull the Bombers to within one. Tyson McInnis tied the game with an RBI ground out before Connor Myers pushed across the winning run on a sharp grounder through short.

The Bombers were led at the plate by Mitch Power 2-for-4 with an RBI, Rob Phalen 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Bradley with a two-run homer. Josh Coffin picked up the win in relief of Jay.

Top batters for the Chevies were Troy Coffin 3-for-4 with a grand slam, Desi Doyle 2-for-4, and Scott Harper 2-for-4.

 The Bombers now await the winners of the Stratford-Northside series which is scheduled to wrap up Wednesday.

Game 1 of the KCBL finals will be held in Peakes Sunday with a time to be announced later this week.

Stratford 9, Brewers 4

The Stratford Alley Athletics came from behind to defeat the Morell Northside Brewers 9-4 in eight innings in Kings County Baseball League playoff action Sunday.

Down 4-2 in the top of the seventh, the Athletics scored two runs to tie the game and then got key RBI hits from Dan O’Shea and Adam Smith in putting up five runs in the top of the eighth inning.

Jonathan Arsenault got the win in relief of starter Ronnie De la Cruz who threw five solid innings. Tyson Blue suffered the loss with relief from Jayden MacLean.

O’Shea and Smith were Stratford’s top batters with two hits each while Will Jadis and Jed McEwen had the lone two hits for the Brewers.

Game 5 will be Wednesday 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Field.
