With the recent support of P3 (Private Public Partnerships) models by District 11 Green candidate, Hannah Bell, and revelations that many in the party both use and run private schools, the P.E.I. Federation of Labour has been forced to ask if this would lead to further eroding of our public systems.

We are already short of funding for our current school system with needs in evaluating learning disabilities, class size issues and deteriorating older schools. Every dollar given to for-profit private schools will only further pressure this system.

Private Public Partnerships models, while looking to cost less up front, have also been shown to cost more in the long run and further privatize profits from public funds.

The P.E.I. Federation of Labour has lobbied numerous times against P3 models and would like Hannah Bell to explain her comments at the recent debate to ensure Islanders our current public system will not be robbed of funding by supporting public dollars to private schools.

The P.E.I. Federation of Labour wants answers from Hannah Bell and the Green Party as to their stand on privatization of government services, and the costs to all Islanders for private schools.

Carl Pursey,

President,

P.E.I. Federation of Labour
