Stupendous and amazing. These words describe the Elora Singers in concert at Trinity United Church on Friday night. This was a most memorable Friday the 13th. My good friend Maud Anschutz, a retired music teacher called me at noon that day to offer an extra ticket. Of course I said yes.
The songs, singers and musicians were amazing, and when they sang Marching to Pretoria with the words on the screen, I had to sing along. Childhood memories came back. Other memorable songs included, ‘Where have all the flowers gone,’ ‘I'll never smile again,’ ‘We rise again,’ and four handsome young men sang Sh-Boom (‘Life could be a dream)’.
Just could not resist singing. I wanted to hug every one of those singers. We heard Four Strong Winds, and the very famous Hallelujah. We had the opportunity to sing O Canada with the singers. Loud and clear.
The pictures and stories that were all put together by Huge Brewster, were informative and so well done. Narrators, who were both Island women, were right on spot. The organ music by Trinity's own Donald Fraser and pianist James Bourne were fabulous.
This was the first stop on a 12-day tour and all those who attended were the lucky recipients of a performance that cannot be matched. Thanks to Maud for inviting me and especially the conductor Noel Edison, who had me wanting to conduct with him. Bravo.
