EDITOR:

I am writing about my concerns with the well-known Canada Goose jackets. I feel most people who purchase these ridiculously priced jackets, that cost close to $1,000, don’t truly understand what goes on behind them.

Coyotes are inhumanely trapped and brutally killed just to get some fur before their lifeless bodies are simply discarded. The usual comment of “it’s fine, coyotes are just pests,” is just a cowardly remark. Just because an animal is considered to be a pest and disrupts farmers’ livestock does not mean that they should be trapped and left to suffer until they can be put out of their misery.

Man does not seem to realize that we are encroaching on their territory. To them, we are most likely considered to be the pests. The populations of coyotes will continue to drastically decrease, like many other species that we see in the world today. Many people are probably thinking, “well good riddance, they are just coyotes” but they are on this earth because they play a role in the ecosystems.

The warmth that comes from the inside of the jacket has a disgustingly cold back story. Just know that the geese which supplied the down used to fill those coats have seen a short, horrible and abused life.

In 2018, there are more synthetic insulators and faux fur that work just as well. The lives of all of those animals who were killed to produce these jackets so that others can have warmth, are priceless.
