EDITOR:

Cheers, to the writer of Thursday’s scorching editorial in support of opening adoption records. The opinion piece laid out some lamentable history and took a no-nonsense approach to the dithering and unnecessary delay that will be caused by the proposed public review. There are no doubts left with this reader, or concerns about any possible ‘other side of the story’ that would have merit.

P.E.I. is foot-dragging along with Quebec and Nova Scotia, remembered for “Duplessis’ orphans” and “butter box babies” respectively. Government must get out in front on this issue or certainly face another Charter of Rights challenge on which our premier has not fared well in the past. If the province and the premier still don’t get it after reading the editorial, then, Jeers.

Don Humphrey,

Souris
