Joseph R. "Joe" Thistle

Peacefully surrounded by his family at the PEI Atlantic Baptist Home on Monday, June 18, 2018 of Joseph R. "Joe" Thistle of Charlottetown age 87 years. Beloved husband of Sylvia (nee Chandler) Thistle and dear father of Betty (Allison dec.) McNally, Judy (Ted) Lawlor, Debbie (Alan) Thompson, Robert (Lorna) and Rick (Janice). Loving Grampy Joe to Wayde, Randy, and David McNally, Craig and Brad Lawlor, Curtis and Keith Thompson, Justin, Brent and Kyle Thistle, Trevor Thistle and Emily Baker and great grampy to 20 great grandchildren. Brother of Mary Long (Jack dec.), Cecelia "Sis" (Jr. dec.) Dowling, Mark (Betty) Thistle and brother-in-law of Virginia Thistle and Mary Chandler. Joe was also predeceased by his siblings, John (Evelyn), Lillian (Luke) and Claude. Resting at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home until Thursday, then transferred to St. Dunstan’s Basilica for funeral mass at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Members of the Knights of Columbus will hold a prayer service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and members of the Charlottetown Branch #1 of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a tribute service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. If so desired memorial contributions may be made to the Provincial Palliative Care Centre or a charity of choice.
