A 20-year-old Stratford man pleaded guilty Thursday to attempting to stab a man to death in a Charlottetown apartment in September 2017.

Chase Joseph Douglas Aslantogmus will be sentenced June 22.

Police responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 about a fight underway.

The 21-year-old stabbing victim was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with what was reported at the time as stab wounds that were not life-threatening.

Police reported the two men were known to each other.

A resident of the apartment building on Upper Prince Street where the stabbing occurred told The Guardian in September that she heard a man say: “I stabbed somebody. Call the police.’’

The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said she saw the man wander around before sitting on the grass near the building.

The woman said when police pulled up, a man got down on his knees, put his hands on his head, and calmly gave himself up.

“He didn’t try to run away or anything,’’ she said.

“It was quite a sight.’’

The apartment was also the scene of a stabbing in 2015, which resulted in a man being found not guilty on two counts of attempted murder after being deemed not criminally responsible.
