Police issue warning about online investment scam

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Police in Charlottetown are warning people of an Internet scam involving online relationships.

Police say they received a report in late December from a woman who formed a relationship with someone purporting to be an oil company investor.

Over the course of their conversation, the woman was asked and sent more than $20,000 through Western Union.

Police are reminding the public that this scam has been reported in the past, and can take different forms. People are asked to use caution and beware of potential scams.
