Young O’Leary man dies in highway accident

Jordan Bigelow, left, and Jeff Mahar, workers for City of Summerside electric department worked on a power lines after a single-vehicle accident knocked out power early Wednesday morning.

Prince County District RCMP confirmed the O’Leary area man died as a result of his injuries.

The vehicle had struck a utility pole.

RCMP responded to the call at 6:53 a.m.

Island EMS, the Summerside Fire Department, electric crews and the Department of Highways assisted at the scene.

The roadway, between the Waite Road in Sherbrooke/Summerside and the Travellers Rest roundabout, was closed for several hours during the investigation.

Power was also knocked out to nearby residents. City of Summerside crews were working to restore electricity once the scene was clear.

The investigation is ongoing.
