The Canadian Automobile Association is once again asking Islanders and other Atlantic Canada residents to cast their vote for the region’s worst roads.

CAA’s seventh-annual Worst Roads campaign launches Tuesday and runs until April 18.

Every road in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador is eligible to be named a Worst Road.

“The purpose of our Worst Roads campaign is to highlight the number of dangerous road conditions in the region,” said Gary Howard of CAA Atlantic. “Poor road conditions affect everyone, and over the years we’ve seen communities leverage Worst Roads as an opportunity to bring attention to problematic roads in their region. In fact, plans are already underway to repair 2017’s top two worst roads.”

Tens of thousands of votes have been cast since the campaign began in 2010.

Results will be tabulated after the campaign closes, after which CAA will share the top 10 Worst Roads in Atlantic Canada, along with any available information on planned updates for each. “One of the things we’re most proud of with this campaign is that it not only gives citizens a platform to bring attention to roads in need of repairs, it also gives governments a forum to share repair updates or maintenance plans with the public,” said Howard.

Through its research CAA has determined - after adding up the costs of traffic congestion, repair costs, taxes and various other costs - a bad road could cost the average driver up to $3,000 each year.

The Worst Roads campaign is open to the public, and votes can be submitted through the CAA Atlantic Facebook page, or online at www.atlantic.caa.ca/worstroads.

2017’s Worst Roads:
