VIDEO: Firefighters contain scrapyard blaze in Oyster Bed Bridge, P.E.I.

Firefighters have contained a fire that broke out at a scrapyard near Oyster Bed shortly after noon on Monday.

The blaze at the property, located along Route 223 (the Winsloe Road), was contained to the scrapyard, however nearby residents were on standby for evacuation in case the wind causes the fire to change direction.

Firefighters at the scene said they had to keep the flames away from a nearby woodlot at the rear of the scrapyard.

A portion of the Winsloe Road was closed to allow pumper trucks to fill up at the nearby creek and rush back to the fire.

The North Shore, New Glasgow and North River fire departments reposnded to the fire. Island EMS was also at the scene as a precautionary measure.
