Clements has been appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island.

She is replacing Justice Wayne Cheverie, who elected supernumerary status effective Sept. 1, 2016.

Clements, who was born and raised in High Bank, P.E.I., has been a partner with Stewart McKelvey in Charlottetown specializing in labour, employment and human rights law.

She joined the law firm in 1995, and became a partner in 2009.

She received her Queen’s Counsel designation in 2010.

Clements has received a number of recognitions, including Best Lawyers 2017 Insurance Law Lawyer of the Year in Charlottetown.

“My experience has been as a practicing lawyer, in every sense of the word, for over 20 years,’’ she states in her judicial application.

“I believe that for all of its shortcomings and deficiencies, Canada truly has one of the best, if not the best, judicial systems in the world. My role or contribution to that system has simply been to act as a practicing lawyer – to uphold the values that our system demands.’’

Clements has also been involved in various capacities with the Canadian Red Cross, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of P.E.I., and is currently serving as president of the Board of Sport P.E.I.

She is also proud of her community contributions as chairwoman of the Insurance Section of the P.E.I. Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and as a member of the P.E.I. Law Society’s Continuing Legal Education Committee.

She and her husband live in Mermaid with their four children.
