Two rallies to converge in Charlottetown March 4

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A UPEI student group called Revolutionary Student Movement is hoping to scare off a group rallying in support of freedom of speech in front of Charlottetown City Hall March 4.

The Canadian Coalition for Concerned Citizens and Revolutionary Student Movement are both holding rallies in front of Charlottetown City Hall March 4.

The students say the Canadian Coalition for Concerned Citizens promotes Islamophobia.

The Canadian Coalition for Concerned Citizens is against Sharia Law and globalization and is holding similar rallies today nationwide to “share their perspectives” on freedom, liberty and justice.

The student group plans on holding a rally in conjunction with this one since it opposes all reactionary and anti-people groups.

This group plans to meet at the entrance of the Confederation Court Mall on Kent Street at 11:45 a.m. and then “march and chant with anger and conviction” to City Hall to shut down the Canadian Coalition for Concerned Citizens rally.

A statement from the student group says, “this is not a calm and docile rally” and asks participants to wear masks or a bandanna so that they won’t be identified.

The reasoning behind this is that “organized reactionaries sometimes photograph and document the identity of their opposition”.

They also ask that those participating be “secure in their involvement” by parking their vehicle a distance away from the rally and to have a pre-arranged location to meet after the rally.

The Canadian Coalition for Concerned Citizens rally also has some rules for those wanting to carry signs/banners.

It asks participants to carry signs that say things like “Stop Globalization”, “Freedom, liberty and Justice for all” and “Stop Sharia Law”.
