A man failed to appear in provincial court Monday for sentencing for sexually touching a 13-year-old girl.

Brendan Alexander Poirier was serving a 90-day sentence on weekends for sexually touching a different 13-year-old girl.
He was released from jail this morning, but failed to appear in court for sentencing.
Provincial Court Judge John Douglas issued the warrant for Poirier’s arrest.
Poirier, 19, appeared before Douglas on Nov. 1. He had been scheduled to go to trial, but instead pleaded guilty to sexually touching a girl. He also pleaded guilty to failing to attend court.
He was to be sentenced this morning in the second sexual touching case.
In that case, the court heard last month, Poirier and the victim were friends when he texted her in April asking if she wanted to hang out.
The victim went with two other girls to one of Poirier’s friends’ apartment where he gave them alcohol.
When everyone decided to go to sleep, Poirier pulled out a sofa bed for him and the victim. Poirier then had sex with the girl.
Crown attorney Lisa Goulden said Poirier told the police he thought the victim was 14 and he didn’t think it was wrong for someone his age to have sex with someone her age.
Poirier also told the police he thought the sex was consensual, but he was intoxicated so his judgment was impaired, Goulden said.
