WOOD ISLANDS, P.E.I. – A Charlottetown man initially reported as a possible impaired driver turned out not to be drunk when police stopped his vehicle, but he now faces several other charges.

Thursday afternoon, Kings District RCMP received information about a vehicle driving erratically in Nova Scotia before boarding the ferry to Prince Edward Island.

Officers intercepted the vehicle in Wood Islands and conducted a field sobriety test on the driver, who was found not to be impaired.

A request for documentation, however, revealed the driver’s licence was suspended and there was no valid registration, insurance or inspection of the vehicle.

When police inquired about the vehicle, they discovered the license plate on the car had been reported stolen.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of what appeared to be steroids, a shotgun and pellet handgun.

The 35-year-old man was released later that day and will appear in provincial court in early June to face charges of possession of stolen property and breach of probation.

The RCMP investigation into possible charges for firearm possession and drugs possession continues.
