CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A P.E.I. man who pleaded guilty to break and enter with assault causing bodily harm was sentenced recently to 90 days in jail.

Ryan Alexander Allen, 34, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown for sentencing after previously entering guilty please on two charges.

Allen also pleaded guilty to failing the breathalyzer.

The break and enter charge dated back to August when Allen went in through a window to enter the home of someone he knew and got into an altercation with people inside.

A woman was injured when she tried to intervene.

Orr accepted a joint recommendation of 90 days in jail, which Allen will serve on weekends, and said his circumstances were unique.

She also sentenced Allen to 10 days in jail to be served concurrently for failing the breathalyzer and banned him from driving for one year.

Allen will be on probation for three years and must perform 200 hours of community service.

He must also write apology letters to the victims, be subject to electronic monitoring if directed and pay $400 in victim surcharges.

Allen will be under a 10-year weapons prohibition and must provide a DNA sample for the national databank.
