Council plans to raise its objections on the proposed Three Rivers amalgamation to the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC).
Council voted 6-0 during last night’s committee of council meeting to file an objection.
IRAC is currently reviewing a proposal to amalgamate seven Kings County communities to create the province’s third largest municipality.
As part of the process, municipalities involved have an opportunity to make objections.

Montague, the largest community in the proposal, voted 3-2 during a special meeting in February to opt out of amalgamation.
However, the municipality was still included in the application to IRAC filed by the Three Rivers Steering Committee.
Even the councillors personally in favour of amalgamation voted on Monday to file an objection.
Coun. Jim Bagnall, who was out of the country during February’s special meeting and could not vote, said while he personally supported amalgamation he also had to respect council’s decision to opt out.
“Council made a decision they were not going forward… I have to respect the decision of council and my fellow councillors,” Bagnall said following the meeting.
Council will vote on the issue once more during a regular meeting on May 14 before the objection is sent.
