Free community meal will be held every Wednesday in Montague

MONTAGUE, P.E.I. - A member of the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church says all are welcome to free community meals being held at the church.

The Upskilling Food Festival and Conference will take place May 11-14. This is the third year that Upskilling will help people learn to produce local food from the soil through to the dinner table.

Darren Dingwell said the meal program will start tomorrow and will run every Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The event is free to everyone, whether they’re in need of a meal or just looking to connect with others in the town.

“Whether it’s to fill the need for a meal or fill a void for someone who might be alone, it’s just a spot for people to gather and chat while having a meal,” said Dingwell.

Dingwell said part of the inspiration behind the idea came while he was cooking for another church program last year.

He also took notice last year when members of the Montague Church of Christ began began putting on meals for the community every Tuesday.

“The more the merrier as far as I’m concerned,” said Dingwell.

Dingwell thanked the church for supplying the space and electricity to hold the event and noted that he and his wife were taking care of the food by themselves and through donations.

He said anyone who would like to donate to the program, whether it’s a bag of potatoes, $5 or provide a helping hand to serve food, can reach him through the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Facebook page.
