More than $8,000 has been raised in eight days in a gofundme campaign that has a goal of $25,000.

Mooney was able to escape with his dog from a blaze during a terrible snow storm Feb. 14.

However, he has lost his house and all his belongings.

Nova MacIsaac notes on the fundraising site the loss will take a terrible toll on Mooney, who served as a Conservative MLA from 1996 to 2007 in the electoral district of Souris-Elmira.

“We are reaching out to the greater community at this time to help with donations to get Andy back on track,’’ she states on the site.

“As everyone knows, the Mooney family never backed down when someone in the community was in need, and Andy has been a popular entertainer for years, singing and playing his guitar at countless benefit concerts over the years, helping others. Now it’s our turn to help him.’’
