SUMMERSIDE - The College of Piping officially opened the doors to its new theatre facility, the Celtic Performing Arts Centre, on Tuesday.

The project began two years ago when the federal, provincial and municipal governments, as well other donors, announced support for the project.

One of the capital campaign contributors was the Dalglish Family Foundation. Representing the foundation at the ribbon cutting was Camilla Dalglish. The theatre is now known as the Dalglish Family Theatre.

Jennifer Thompson was also on hand, representing her father, W. Barry Thompson. The new theatre’s stage was named in honour of Barry Thompson at the request of his cousins, siblings Jonathan and Vanessa Morgan, who are benefactors of the College of Piping.

Lt.-Gov. Antoinette Perry was also in attendance.

“The opening of this centre is so momentous, and being a music educator, it is incredible to see how far it’s come,” said Perry.

“You inspire students to discover necessary tools to develop and express artistic talents with confidence.”

About 100 people gathered outside the facility for the official ribbon cutting before heading inside for a preview of the college’s new summer show “Great Scot!”
