GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. - P.E.I. siblings accused of helping set up fake addresses for business immigrants had their case adjourned for one month.

Ping Zhong and her brother Yi Zhong did not appear in provincial court Thursday in Georgetown. Their case was adjourned to Aug. 29 in provincial court in Charlottetown to enter a plea.

The siblings allegedly counselled business immigrants seeking permanent residency to provide residential addresses in P.E.I. though they didn’t really live there, as required under the province’s immigration system.

The Canadian Press reported in May that the Canada Border Services said 566 immigrants used the same addresses between 2008 and 2015 – the siblings’ Sherwood Motel and Ping Zhong’s Charlottetown home. Nearly all were granted permanent residency.

Ping Zhong, 60, is charged with three counts of aiding and abetting misrepresentation under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act while her brother faces five counts of the same charge.
