The competition was held by Parks Canada at Brackley Beach for National Parks Day.

The theme was Canada 150, with Islanders and visitors from across the country putting their own twist on the theme.

They also had some help from Island artist Maurice Bernard, who provided some tips on how to make a great sandcastle.

The day also saw the launch of new accessibility mats at Stanhope Beach, which was a collaboration with Access Advisory P.E.I. and the Spinal Cord Injury Association of P.E.I.

The mats allow regular wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility devices to travel from the wooden boardwalk onto the sand and right down to the water’s edge.

There was also yoga on the beach, which incorporated chair yoga, at the beach.
