Shari Lynn McAvinn, 29, of Kinkora was in Summerside provincial court this week before judge Jeff Lantz for sentencing on a number of charges.
She got a total of six days in jail.
Crown attorney John Diamond told the court that McAvinn had been babysitting the children of another woman on June 7. When the woman came home, the two got into an argument over drug-related issues.
McAvinn grabbed the woman by the hair and struck her several times with punches before leaving the residence, said Diamond.
Public defender Jonathan Matters said that McAvin did pull the other woman’s hair, but couldn’t recall punching her. Matters said his client did admit that she started the fight between the two women.
A month after that incident, McAvinn was charged on July 3 with breaching her probation order by failing to contact her probation officer as scheduled.
Then a month later again, on Aug. 16, McAvinn was charged with possession of stolen property, possession of six grams of marijuana, and possession of one 12-milligram hydromorphone capsule.
The stolen items came from a cottage break-in at Linkletter Beach Provincial Park on Aug. 11. They were found in a car occupied by McAvinn and another man.
McAvinn pleaded guilty to all charges.
Lantz ordered McAvinn to pay $300 on the possession of hydromorphone and $100 on the marijuana possession charge.
McAvinn was placed on 18 months probation and ordered to pay a victim fine surcharge of $120.
