Andrews of Stratford
STRATFORD – Over the past decade the need for community care and nursing care beds has steadily increased in Prince Edward Island.

In response to this trend and increased demand from residents of the Stratford area, Andrews of Stratford has commenced renovations to add 24 nursing care beds to the community care facility.

"We feel this is the right move for Andrews of Stratford at this time", says Jeff Murphy, vice resident.

"While we have not yet been granted a nursing license, we are cautiously optimistic that as new beds are added into the system by the provincial government, we will be well positioned to be awarded a license. We also intend to bring independent living apartments to the property so that we can provide full continuity of care."

Andrews of Stratford has been operating as a community care facility since 2005 and also offers home care services, day programs, and short-term stays. The addition of nursing care will allow Andrews to provide full continuity of care and allow residents to remain in the facility as their care needs become more advanced.

The nursing beds will be located in a separate wing and will be ready for occupancy by mid-December, 2015, according to Jennifer Pitre, a registered nurse and director of care at Andrews of Stratford.

Stratford Mayor David Dunphy welcomes the move.

“The senior age population of Stratford will increase significantly in the coming years, and we feel that our seniors should have nursing care options in their own community. As their health care needs increase, it will be wonderful to allow them to stay in the same community, close to their family and friends."
