Female driver in P.E.I. dead after collision with truck on Highway 2 Thursday afternoon

A female driver in P.E.I. is dead after a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 2 near Brookfield Thursday.

At 2:40 p.m. a car and a Cardigan Feed Service truck were involved in a collision.

"One vehicle did cross into oncoming traffic," said Cpl. Christopher Gunn, patrol supervisor for Queens District RCMP.

The female driver, who was the lone occupant of the car, was declared dead at the scene. The male driver of the truck was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with minor injuries.

Family members have all been notified, said Gunn.

Traffic was re-routed while an RCMP traffic-collision analyst worked on the investigation.

"We cleared the scene around 7 p.m.," said Gunn.

Work on the file will continue as officers will be spending the next few days taking statements from people who gave their names as witnesses but left the scene.

"Speed was not a factor, alcohol was not a factor," said Gunn. There is nothing at this time that would lead towards charges being laid."
