Police officer charged with assault

An RCMP officer on P.E.I. is facing assault charges.

Const. Jeffrey Rae Gillis, 43, of Charlottetown is set to appear in provincial court on May 9 to enter a plea on two counts of assault and one count of uttering a threat stemming from incidents on two separate occassions earlier this month.

The Crown is pursuing a summary conviction, which typically result from the most minor offences in the Criminal Code, such as causing a disturbance and making harassing telephone calls.
