Islander Day in Charlottetown will involve some free stuff for families.

The City of Charlottetown will be serving up a pancake breakfast, family swims, bowling, performances by The Music Man – Michael Pendergast, skating at the Simmons Arena and more on Monday, Feb. 15.

Things kick off at the West Royalty Community Centre at 8 a.m. with a free pancake breakfast. The family skate begins at 9:30 a.m. at Simmons Sport Centre and the CARI pool is offering two family swims at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Mayor Clifford Lee says Islander Day was established to provide a short winter break, a holiday for families to spend time together.

“We’re pleased that we’re once again able to host an Islander Day celebration of free activities for all ages. We invite everyone to come join us,” Lee said in a news release.

The Guild will feature two performances by Pendergast at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and family glow-in-the-dark bowling is being offered at the Murphy’s Community Centre at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Free tickets for the family swim must be picked up in advance, beginning Feb. 8, and the bowling lanes must be pre-booked, beginning Feb. 8. More details and the full schedule are available at by clicking on the Islander Family Fun Day button (Direct URL:

Deputy Mayor Mike Duffy, chairman of the economic development, tourism and arts and culture committees, says it’s wonderful to see community partners coming together to help the city offer a range of activities for Islander Day.

“Hopefully the weather co-operates and we’re able to make most of this winter holiday together with these fun, free activities," Duffy said.
