Public tip leads to finding car that fled accident on Main Street in Montague

MONTAGUE – Kings District RCMP said a tip from the public has led to finding a car and driver involved in a hit and run on Main Street Monday.

A vehicle was merging onto Main Street when it was struck by a vehicle travelling north on Main Street, said a report issued by the RCMP Tuesday.

The impact to the merging vehicle was on the driver’s side, spinning it off the road.

The driver of the hit vehicle was not injured, however the vehicle he was driving sustained considerable damage, said the report.

Witnesses saw a dark-coloured Honda Civic with front-end damage fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed, heading south on Main Street.

Officers recovered pieces of the run vehicle at the collision scene, said the report.

"An anonymous tip from a member of the public lead to the police locating the (run) vehicle, which was a black 1999 Honda Civic, at a residence in Montague," said the report.

"The vehicle has been seized, and a male, believed to have been the driver at the time of the collision, has been identified," it said.

The RCMP detachment thanked the anonymous tipster and encouraged everyone to report information they have about crimes.
