Summerside man airlifted to Halifax after beating

SUMMERSIDE – A 55-year-old Summerside man is in a Halifax hospital today after being assaulted in his Mill Crescent apartment on the weekend.

Summerside Police describe his condition as stable but serious.

Accord to the police, 29-year-old James Russell Purdy has been arrested and remanded into custody until his next court appearance on Aug. 20 in relation to the event.

Purdy has been charged with break and enter plus aggravated assault.

Police and Island EMS were called to 30 Mill Crescent on Sunday after a family member found the seriously injured victim in his home.

He was taken to Prince County Hospital but had to be airlifted to Halifax.

Purdy was arrested at a home in Wellington Monday.
