Bishop announces changes to clergy across P.E.I.

June 19 is moving day for many Roman Catholic priests in the Diocese of Charlottetown.

Bishop of Charlottetown, Most Reverend Richard Grecco, recently announced clergy appointments and changes affecting 23 of the diocese’s priests.

Three priests, have been granted retirement. They are Rev. Gerard Tingley, currently co-pastor of Our Lady of Assumption Parish in Stratford, St. Joachim’s Parish in Vernon River and St. Patrick’s in Fort Augustus; Rev. George Gilliland, chaplain at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Rev. Paul Batchilder, pastor of St. Mary’s in Souris and St. Alexis in Rollo Bay.

A sabbatical year has been granted to Diocesan Chancellor Rev Eric Dunn and to Rev. Philip Callaghan, co-pastor of the parishes in Stratford, Vernon River and Fort Augustus.

Rev. John Molina retains his role as pastor of Holy Family Parish in Kensington and administrator of St. James Parish in Summerfield and takes on additional responsibilities as Chancellor and Diocesan Judicial Vicar.

Rev. Jim Willick retains keeps his assignments as administrator of St. Columbia Parish, Fairfield, t. Margaret’s Parish, St. Margaret’s and St. Charles Parish, St. Charles and takes on additional appointments as pastor of the Souris parish and administrator of the Rollo Bay parish.

On the move are: Rev. Arthur Sequeira, from temporary administrator of Immaculate Conception Parish, Palmer Road and Our Lady of the Assumption Mission in Miminegash to Chaplain of Queen Elizabeth Hospital and related ministries; Rev. Albin Arsenault, pastor at St. John the Baptist Parish, Miscouche and administrator of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Wellington and St. Patrick’s Parish, Grand River, will take over as pastor of the Palmer Road parish and Miminegash mission; Rev Bradley Sweet, administrator of St. Paul’s Parish, Summerside becomes pastor of Wellington parish and administrator of Grand River and St. Anne’s Parish, Lennox Island.

Rev. Chris Sherren, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Alberton and St. Mark’s in Burton will become pastor of St. Paul’s Parish in Summerside; Rev. Andrew MacDonald, associate pastor of St. Pius X Parish, Charlottetown, takes over in Alberton and Burton;

Rev. Greg Conway moves from being pastor of St. Theresa of the Little Flower Parish in Morell and administrator of St. Peter’s Parish, St. Peter’s Bay and St. Lawrence O’Toole Parish, Green Meadows to being pastor of the Miscouche parish.

Rev. Keith Kennific, pastor of St. Pius X Parish, will take over as pastor of St. Bonaventure’s Parish, Tracadie Cross and administrator of St. Eugene’s Parish Covehead and St. Michael’s Parish, Corran Ban; Rev. Lyndon Hogan, pastor of the Tracadie Cross parish and administrator of the Covehead and Corran Ban parishes becomes pastor of the Stratford parish and administrator of the Vernon River and Fort Augustus parishes Rev. Maurice Praught goes from pastor of St. James Parish, Georgetown and administrator of All Saints Parish, Cardigan, St. George’s Parish, St. George’s and St. Francis de Sales Parish, Little Pond to pastor of St. Pius X Parish; Rev. Tim Broderick, associate pastor of St. Dunstan’s Basilica Parish, Charlottetown, appointed pastor of the Georgetown parish and administrator of the Cardigan, St. George’s and Little Pond parishes and Rev. Brian MacDougall returns from to become pastor of the Morell parish and administrator of the St. Peter’s Bay and Green Meadows parishes.

Rev. Augustine Ignasimuthu moves from associate pastor in Summerside to associate pastor at St. Pius X;  Rev. Raju Chebattina, temporary associate pastor in Souris becomes associate pastor in Souris, Rollo Bay, Fairfield. St. Margaret’s and St. Charles; Rev. Ashok Veeabathina, temporary associate pastor of St. Anthony’s Parish,  Bloomfield, St. Brigid’s, Foxley River, Corpus Christi, Glenwood and Immaculate Conception mission, Brae, becomes associate pastor at St. Dunstan’s Basilica Parish; Rev. Benedict Paulraj, temporary associate pastor in the parishes of St. Mary’s, Montague, St. Paul’s in Sturgeon and St Michael’s in Iona becomes associate pastor in Stratford, Vernon River and Fort Augustus parishes and Rev. Auralraj Santiago, on loan from the Diocese of Ahmedabad, India will become associate pastor of the Summerside parish.

Bishop Grecco also announced that Diocesan Seminarian, Andrew Handrahan will conduct his pastoral year at St. Mary’s Parish in Souris and related cluster parishes. While all other appointments are effective June 19, Handrahan’s appointment takes effect in September.
