SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Filmworks Summerside launches its seventh season on Sept. 12, with a presentation of the film “Puzzle” starring Kelly Macdonald and Irrfan Khan.

“Puzzle” tells the story of Agnes, a taken for granted suburban wife and mother who discovers a talent and passion for solving jigsaw puzzles, which unexpectedly draws her into a new world where her life unfolds in ways she could never have imagined.

Founded in October 2012, Filmworks Summerside is affiliated with Film Circuit, the non-profit outreach division of TIFF, which coordinates a network of more than 170 community groups in 150 locations across Canada to help them access quality Canadian and international films that would not normally play in smaller communities.

Filmworks Summerside typically screens one film per month from September through late November (two in November) and January through to early May for a total of nine films.

The Filmworks season seven fall series continues on Oct. 10 with “Eighth Grade”, an intimate look at the challenges of adolescence in the age of social media. Tentatively scheduled for Nov. 7 is “The Song and the Sorrow”, a new documentary produced by the National Film Board and directed by P.E.I. filmmaker Millefiore Clarkes. The film follows award-winning musician and Summerside native Catherine MacLellan as she journeys to understand her father, Gene MacLellan and his legacy of music and mental health struggles.

Also scheduled for Nov. 7 is the documentary feature “Anthropocene: The Human Epoch,” a visually stunning look at the impact of human activity on Planet Earth, by Canadian filmmaker Jennifer Baichwal.

The final film of the fall lineup is “The Wife,” scheduled for Nov. 28, starring Glenn Close as the wife of a famous novelist who is about to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Dates and titles for the winter/spring portion of the series will be announced later. Representatives from Filmworks Summerside will be attending the Atlantic Film Festival, Sept. 13-20 in Halifax to see what is upcoming for the new year.

Movie tickets and season passes are available at the door. Screenings will be held at Cineplex Cinemas Summerside.
