John Dunphy’s tour business has outgrown his basement.

In early 2009, Dunphy started Target Tours in his Morell home.

He first focused on bus tours and school tours, but in 2010 he added cruises out of Boston and New York to his travel offerings.

Target Tours expanded into flight packages in 2014. The company has also developed over the past few years a wing of its business to accommodate tour operators who bring their groups to the Maritimes and require full-time tour planning or guide services.

The company has enjoyed continual growth with business more than doubling since 2014.

The basement became too cramped to continue as the business base for the current full-time office staff of six. The company employs another 10 people as tour guides.

So Target Tours opened in a new location in Stratford on Sept. 18.

Dunphy, who tours tour planning and new product development, is geared up to see his business continue to travel in the right direction.

“Our office is set up for growth,’’ he says.

“Hopefully we can add more people.’’

Dunphy co-owns Target Tours with his wife, Lynn, who has seen the demand for her bookkeeping services at the company gradually grow from a day a week to full time.

John believes the success of Target Tours, in part, is in the strong emphasis placed on providing clients with a hassle free trip.

“We don’t compromise on our product,’’ he says.

“It’s important that you get customers that are coming back.’’
