KENSINGTON — The Island Stone Pub here is changing hands.

Located in the town's historic train station, the establishment has been owned by Karen Murphy for several years.

She's in the final stages of selling the business to Jaime Zehr and Eric Neal, who are originally from Ontario but who have lived on P.E.I. for two years.

The new owners plan to officially take over April 1, closing for two weeks while they get set up.

Neal said recently that he and his partner fell in love with P.E.I. several years ago and have been waiting for a business opportunity to come along for them here. They finally decided on the Island Stone Pub because of its unique look and historic location.

Murphy, who also owns a small hair salon, said she plans on opening a larger salon in Charlottetown.

Kensington town council voted unanimously Monday night to authorize the town's chief administrative officer to negotiate a new lease on the town-owned property with Neal and Zehr.

The town is also writing a letter of support for the couple for their liquor license application to the province.
