Downtown Charlottetown Inc. (DCI) is pleased to announce the winners of its 12th annual Christmas window decorating contest.

Chandler Architects, on the corner of Great George street and Kent street, is the 2017 overall winner.

The contest encouraged downtown businesses to decorate their storefronts for the Christmas season, and has become a great downtown tradition enjoyed by shoppers, residents, visitors and employees alike.

Dawn Alan, DCI’s executive director, said the contest helps to create a “magical shopping experience” unique to the downtown area.

“All of the participants put a great deal of time and effort into their displays and it’s that special effort, the beautiful decorating, along with excellent customer service, that makes holiday shopping downtown special. We invite everyone to come downtown to view the festive displays and to think local first this Christmas.”

This year, 23 businesses entered the contest, which was judged by Doug Gallant, Heidi Zinn and Paul Alan, who made their way to each storefront on Dec. 5. Windows were scored on theme, lights and overall presentation. Prizes were awarded in both commercial and retail categories. The overall first place winner also gets the coveted trophy to display proudly in their business for a full year.

The overall winner, Chandler Architects, also took first place in the commercial category, with honourable mention going to the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel.

First place in the retail category was Moonsnail Soapworks, followed by Liquid Gold in second place and Freak Lunchbox in third place. Honourable mention for that category went to Lady Slipper/Perfect Pear.
