Target opens first of its Atlantic Canada stores

After over $10 million in renovations, Target Canada has finally opened its doors in Atlantic Canada.

Bryan Berg, senior vice president of Target in Canada, was on hand yesterday at the Mic Mac Mall location in Dartmouth to talk about the opening of the Mic Mac Mall, Bayers Lake, and Bedford Place Mall locations which are part of the 14 stores opening in Atlantic Canada today.

"We have now opened 82 stores across Canada, which are part of a total of 124 locations expected to be open by the end of the year,” says Berg. “There are a total of four locations in Nova Scotia with the last one in Sydney opening in November.”

The Mic Mac Mall location is one of the largest locations with over 120,000 square feet of space and 160 team members. It features a unique Vermaport shopping cart conveyor, the first of its kind in Nova Scotia, which lifts your cart up along the side of the escalator as you move.

According to Berg, Target’s main focus is on young families and moms. He says its clean, clutter-free wide aisles and one-stop shopping — offering everything from groceries to clothing — is meant to provide a stress free, convenient experience, and the benefits of big brand name partnerships.

There are products made by Mattel, Disney, Roots, Giada De Laurentilis, Nate Berkus, Shawn White, and Phillip Lim.

“We offer Red Cards, in conjunction with The Royal Bank of Canada, to our customers which allows card carrying customers to save five per cent off of their entire purchases,” notes Berg. “That, on top of our competitively priced items and price match guarantee, will help customers increase their savings by shopping at Target.”

According to Berg, the Canadian Target stores will offer much of the same products and services that the American counterparts do but will continue to grow.

“Right now we are focused on getting all of the stores open, then we will start looking at some of the finer points and make adjustments along the way.”
