Ibra Sanoh, a former UPEI Panther rookie of the year, has signed on with the Holland College Hurricanes men’s soccer team for the 2014 season.
Sanoh, a striker with Bayern FC, leads the Ise’s P.E.I. Senior Men’s League Premier Division with 13 goals in 13 games and has been playing soccer in P.E.I. since 2011 after emigrating from Conakry, Guinea.
“Playing for the Hurricanes is a step ahead for me to have the opportunity to improve my skills and win trophies. My teammates are very welcoming and I can’t wait to start this great journey ahead with them,” said Sanoh in a release. “Soccer is my life, and I will do my best to make everyone else understand my love for this game when I am on the field by winning and playing as a team. I am very excited to put on the colours of the Hurricanes and make them proud.”
Sanoh was named Panthers rookie of the year after the 2012 season.
He has played First and Second Division in the Island’s senior men’s circuit and spent 2007-10 in soccer schools in Senegal.
The Hurricanes open training camp later this month in preparation for the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACCAA) season.
Last year, the Hurricanes finished second to the MSVU Mystics in the ACAA championship game.
“Ibra has the ability to be an impact player in the ACAA. His speed and skills make him a difficult player to contain,” said Jonathan Vos, Hurricanes men’s soccer head coach. “We will look to him to provide goals and opportunities for his teammates. We’re very excited to have him on our team.”
Holland College opens the regular season on Saturday, Sept. 6, against the St. Thomas Tommies in Fredericton, N.B.
The Holland College men’s and women’s home openers are Saturday, Sept. 13, versus the Dalhousie Agricultural College Rams at the Terry Fox Complex in Cornwall.
Games are 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men.
