McDonald among today's Order of Nova Scotia recipients


SYDNEY — Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist Art McDonald will be among five recipients of the Order of Nova Scotia during a ceremony this morning in Halifax.

The Sydney native, professor emeritus at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont., and the former director of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory in northern Ontario, was a co-winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on tiny particles known as neutrinos.

He is joined by Françoise Elvina Baylis, Halifax, Freeman Douglas Knockwood, Shubenacadie, James Leonard Morrow, Avonport, and Donald R. Reid, Joggins, as 2016 Order of Nova Scotia recipients.

The investiture ceremony will be held in the Red Chamber at Province House, 1726 Hollis St., Halifax.

The ceremony will be webcast live at novascotia.ca/stayinformed/webcast/ beginning at 11 a.m.
