Panthers beat SeaHawks by 10 to close out men's basketball regular season

The UPEI Panthers men’s basketball team is going to the playoffs on a four-game winning streak.

The Panthers opened with a 26-12 lead after the first quarter and held off a late push by the Memorial SeaHawks for an 87-77 victory Saturday in St. John’s.

Deontay (D.J.) Smith was a rebound away from a triple-double. He scored 23, dished out 10 assists and grabbed nine boards to go with two steals.

Geoff Doane had 17, Alonzo Parker 12 and Jermaine Duke and Joe Kendrick 10 each in the win.

Noel Moffatt had 36 and Vasilije Curcic 21 for the SeaHawks.

The Panthers play at 8:15 Friday against the conference’s sixth-place team, which still has not been determined.
