It's official.

Summerside's Credit Union Place will be the new home a professional basketball team.

The team owners made the announcement in Summerside today along with officials from the National Basketball League of Canada.

The yet-to-be named team will be playing all home games out of CUP. It will also have its offices and merchandise store there as well.

Looking forward to a "pro bb team" here on the Island. Hope it works out. The seats prices are very reasonable.........so reasonable I will be buying a season pass. Should be good entertainment for the money. Would like to suggest a name for the team if it is not too late.

If it doesn't work in Summerside, I could see the team moving to Charlottetown or possible Sydney/Cape Breaton area. Hope it does work out for the people in Summerside, though.

It may be good but we'll see how it goes. To Jimmy, Burger King didn't last because the owner had to sign a new 25 year lease and he's not a spring chick anymore, so sorry your still upset over that

Why does the town keep pouring money into heavily subsidised events? Why can they not focus on creating real jobs for the community. This new venture will prove no different and teh town will be on the hook for a hughe write-off. get the jobs first then bring in teh entertainment when the public has the money to spend...not arse backwards

The town didn't pour any money into this. Its simply a rental of the facility much the same as the elton jon concert

This is going to be interesting to see how long it'll last in Summerside ....Summerside can't even support a Burgar King, what makes them think they can support professional basketball team.

HAHAHAHA! Incredible, basketball isn't even a big sport on the island! Thats not saying that basketball isn't a good sport, or played here. But a pro team, cool, but so was the Titanic....
